Heartsong Ceremonies wishes to be what it says in its title: songs of the heart, figuratively and literally, raising the beauty and energy of your ceremony to something really special. Music contributes to a wholesome and happy life. It can ‘reach the parts’ other things do not and helps us get in touch with our feelings and the things which matter most.
Music can epitomise a special time in our lives and remind us of our favourite people, happenings and occasions.
“Music joined with intention has the power to transform.”
Music has also been used to connect us to the ‘mystery’ or the divine throughout the ages and it can help us to find ourselves again amidst the whirlwind of modern living. In times gone by there were groups of singers who performed at all the important occasions in the year’s calendar as well as at weddings, namings and funerals. Live music brings something very magical to a ceremony and it is this that Danu would like to encourage again.
When choosing music for your ceremony you could consider the following:
- what recorded pieces of music are important to you and you might like to have played?
- what pieces could your guests sing and could Danu rehearse them beforehand to help them feel more confident? or could the piece, a short three part round for example, be taught as part of the ceremony?
- Could Danu sing or play solo a favourite song or blessing?
- Would you like other live musicians, friends or professionals, to contribute to the ceremony?
Danu is a trained singer and can sing in many styles; mainly modern, jazz and folk styles. She is also happy to sing hymns and favourite songs. She also plays piano and Native American flutes. Listen below to some examples of solo pieces used previously in ceremonies.
